Belle Epoque Antique Rose Cut DIAMOND Toi et Moi Ring 1.5 Carat Face Up 18k Gold Victorian Infinity Figure 8 Swirl Art Nouveau Movement
I take regularly scheduled inventory trips to Europe and around the USA to find unique antique items to bring you! My offerings were all hand picked one at a time to assemble a collection that I hope you will enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
Such wonderful movement to this one with the swirling infinity symbol surrounding the two larger rose cut diamond disco balls that make up this toi et moi ring. Smaller rose cut accents grace the sloping lines for added glints of sparkle. Large footprint on the finger with such beautiful lines to grace the hand! (That kinda sounds like AI but it's not, haha).
Found in Paris, it is every bit the romance and quality we love to find in Belle Epoque jewelry from the period. In addition, this one bears the French antique period hallmark used primarily in the 1800s and discontinued in the early 1900s which verifies its antiqueness. The shoulders and ring face are topped in platinum as was customary for the period.
I was excited to find the larger rose cut stones in such excellent condition as they do not have pavilions (the pointed base that brilliant cuts have) but these have no real damage and the prongs are good too, holding each stone securely. Also nice to see that there are no dark carbon spots. Note that the diamonds have flat backs and domed tops, cut more like a disk than a deep diamond with pavilion, so they have that lovely twinkle and a less busy facet patterning since with rose cuts you can sort of see through them easier. They are nice and spready to catch the light, facing up at about 3/4 carat each for the two larger stones (actual carat weight is less), with a sort of free form slightly pear shape.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
The diamonds are each about 6x5mm. Like most rose cuts, they are spready and these face up much larger than their actual carat weight, appearing at around 3/4 carat each so it wears like a 1.5 carat toi et moi ring plus the additional accent stones. Again actual carat weight is much less and not really possible to determine without removing the stones to put them on a scale which I don't prefer to do for fear of damage to them.
Size 6 1/4.
The ring face is 22mm north south.
The piece weighs 4.5grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES
Amazing sparkle and the stones are really bright and lively, not reading warm and shooting rainbows all over. Typical for antique stones and the way they are cut that you can see right through them, you can see some natural inclusions but neither appear overall frosty and there is no carbon. They both have small speck or thumbnail inclusions that are slightly eye visible when they catch the light. Both stones appear complete but again free form in shape, almost like a softly cushion cut pear.
One of the small accent rose cuts is chipped with loss to half so only a half of the stone remains. They are so small that it is not really glaring and it still provides a glint of sparkle. Under magnification, all the smaller rose cuts are rough cut and frosty, likely have always been this way from when they were cut.
In the photo in the box the ring face appears to list to one side but it is actually the bypass shoulders of the ring that swirl and are slightly asymmetrical to provide that movement. When worn the infinity sign faces up and the shoulders swoop out from there if that makes sense, which is part of the original design of the ring - it's so lovely.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
