IVY Leaf and Berry Ruby French Antique 18k Gold Figural Belle Epoque Art Nouveau Ring
ABOUT:
A fine Belle Epoque French antique ring with center ruby (assume synthetic as it was a popular choice for the period) amidst ivy leaves and berries. The two ivy leaves on each side splay north and south with berries above and below.
Beautiful figural Art Nouveau piece crafted in 18k Gold with French hallmark. This would be a sweet pinky ring as well. With a nice footprint on the finger north south, but a low profile and comfortable setting.
The ivy motif was popular in olden times in jewelry as it represents life and eternity (essentially immortality), along with clinging attachment. It also was used to express fidelity and friendship.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 4 3/4.
The ruby is almost 4mm in diameter. The ring face is 15mm north south. It weighs 3.6g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some wear to the patterns from age to the gold but certainly still very legible. The ruby has some surface abrasions and a bit of a matte finish to the crown with some tiny chips to the crown facet under magnification.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
