ABOUT:

Wonderful old cut diamond full eternity band in platinum. Found in France, this antique piece is set with 26 old mine single cut diamonds totaling around 0.8 carat. Sturdy hand feel, nice sparkle all around. These are always super popular. Especially when they have the hand engraved details on the north and south vertical edges of the band.

The stones are single cuts, some with open culets in the old mine cut method, the antique cutting style and from the antique period. Single cut diamonds or eight cuts with less facets, but still being old hand cuts with the faceting of course more freeform and different from the modern machine cut single cuts we see today.

Usually we say these eternity bands are not sizable but this one was quite expertly sized at some point in its life. An additional single cut diamond was added with a tiny strap of platinum. It blends very nicely, they even added engravings to match, and is only noticeable if you seek it out as the diamond is just slightly different from the other stones in size and hue, it reflects the light differently being a more modern cut than the others, and you can see a slight ripple to the metal when viewed from the side. Again this is not at all glaring while wearing and could always be worn to the palm side of the hand if desired.

Found in France. No hallmarks remain, tests as platinum.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 6 3/4, typically not sizable although this one was actually sized in the past.

The band is 2.5mm wide north south with a depth of about 2mm. It weighs 2.3g
Each of the 26 diamonds is about 2.1mm. Varying depths to the stones. I would never remove them to ascertain exact carat weight but estimated around 0.8ctw in diamonds.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds, some eye clean, others with faint natural inclusions, some a bit frosty from the frosted girdle reflecting in the stone. I don't see any carbon. Nice sparkle and sturdy shank. The prongs actually look quite good although I always recommend gentler wear on antique pieces with so many stones set with little bead prongs, and with eternities having part of the ring come into contact with surfaces on the palm side of the hand, it's something to keep an eye on. Surprisingly, considering this, there is little damage in the way of chipped or cracked stones that we often see on pieces of this age.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
