Antique Foiled CITRINE Sunny Yellow Rose Cut Diamond Ring Georgian Era Setting Button Back Ring Butt ; ) East West Elongated
ABOUT:
A gorgeous foiled citrine and rose cut diamond ring with domed button back. This has been in my personal collection for years, I swoon for the happy yellow color, this one has such a nice reflectivity as well.
The piece has the decorative "ring butt" as we call it in the trade, with a domed and lined button back to hold the foil backing. The setting is definitely antique, but this stone is in Perfect condition so I think the citrine may be a later replacement to the antique setting. Quite amazingly well done with the foil backing being a more antiquated method of construction. So this was quite the expert who did the work as it appears clean and tidy as if it were made in the 200 year old methods which is quite a lost art. The diamonds do look their age so I don't think that part or the rest of the setting was altered. But the center stone is just too glossy and shiny to be 200 years old so I am assuming it was replaced. Makes the piece just beautiful to wear with such a nice glossy sheen and reflectivity.
No hallmarks remain but it tests at 14k with the exception of the patch at the back that tests a bit lower in carat from when it was sized.
Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 3/4.
Dainty shank, the piece weighs 1.6 grams.
The citrine is 8.6x7mm.
4.7mm tall off the finger with the domed back.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As mentioned the citrine is too perfect so I assume it is a later replacement. The setting shows signs of age and antiqueness with the shank having been worn a bit thin with the flared edges feeling blunt against the finger. Seam to the back from a sizing. Typical antique diamonds with some frosty spots, rough edges and natural inclusions and a grayish hue from age to the foiled back. Some rub marks to the domed button back / ring butt. The citrine is perfect and while it is not all original the tradeoff is the antique look without any rust or muddiness, abrasions, dullness or dinginess to the stone, so this gives you a little bit of both the old and newer.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
