OPAL Antique Blue Five Stone Skinny Band Stacker Ring 14k Rose Gold Linear Edwardian Victorian Romantic Gift Geometric Minimalist Glowing
ABOUT:
For me opals often fall into the "they don't make them like they used to" category because I just love how blue the old ones often look compared to the many of the whiter, more flecked opals we usually see today.
Opals can sometimes get a bad rap when they are said to be softer and thereby harder to wear. The former is of course true but the latter - I have not found to be set in stone. My mom wore an opal throughout my childhood, given to her by my dad early in their relationship. She wore it cooking, cleaning, working and raising kiddos and it still looks great today! So we both have a fondness for them and loved this one when we found it on our recent sourcing trip together.
This antique sweetie has five somewhat oval ones in a row, set in a rosy 14k gold (tested) setting. The color of the stones are just magic. Even now in ambient light I can see the mix of blues and greens and the salmon pink glow. And looking into them under magnification is like looking at those images of the earth and other planets from a million miles away, with their swirling highlights within. I love this one!
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 7. It weighs 1.9 grams.
The ring face is 5.7mm north south and 4.1mm tall off the finger. Largest center opal is 4.5mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Surface wear to the opals so they don't have the sheen they likely once had but a beautiful glowing color. A worn prong here and there on each stone, but the others hold the stones securely. This is expected for age and something to keep an eye on over time. I always recommend gentler wear on pretty much all of my antique jewelry.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
